Meet Our Partner Shelters

Where do our pets come from? All of them come from our partner shelters in Lithuania. Many of our pets reside in Lithuania, but some live in foster homes in the Netherlands. The shelters we partner with are passionate about providing animals with a safe, temporary place on their way to their forever homes. They also dream of a Lithuania without stray, abused, and chained animals.

How did we choose?

Each of our partner shelters matches our mission and provides animals with a wonderful place to stay while they search for a better life. They are all no-kill shelters, have an established relationship with their community, and aim to educate people about animal welfare. They are also willing to go the extra mile to find homes for animals abroad. We truly appreciate that they have agreed to work with us.

Animal Welfare in Lithuania

Stray animals rely on shelters to take care of their basic needs, but there are more strays than shelter spaces and every year hundreds of animals suffer because they have nowhere to call home. Other animals have a so-called “home,” with bad owners. Unfortunately, sometimes the bad treatment is actually legal! In fact, it is legal to keep your dog chained outside. When our shelters see animal abuse (whether legal or illegal), they do their best to rescue the animal and bring it to a safer place.

The shelters receive government funding, but it is woefully inadequate to even cover basic costs like food and electricity. This is why the shelters rely on donations and the support of their local community. At RDCNL, we feel it is our responsibility to also help these shelters so that is why we find places for animals who might not find homes in Lithuania.
